Place: Southern California near Idyllwild.
We got a few tips on some birding spots. The Pinyon Jay was suppose to be at the Pinyon Hills Campground in the San Bernardino National Park. Tent camping & very small RVs
The Pinyon Jay didn’t appear but the Western Scrub Jay was there.
Then, we drove out to Hurkey Creek Campground in Mountain Center, California to see the White Headed Woodpecker. He didn’t show up but the Western Scrub Jays were in abundance. Also, while driving home we saw two Turkey Vultures. So, we weren’t completely skunked.
I think during the summer month birding spots closer to the Southern California beaches is a good idea. 🙂 Luckily, we were home by lunchtime. It’s hot in Southern California.
